Endeavour Ship Model (Click photos to enlarge)
Endeavour, a 130 foot J-Class sloop, was commissioned by British airplane magnate Sir T.O.M. Sopwith to challenge the New York Yacht Club for the America's Cup in 1934. Built by Camper & Nicholson of Gosport, England under the supervision of Englishman Frank Murdoch, she narrowly lost to America's Rainbow.
Widely regarded as one of the world's most beautiful yachts, Endeavour was returned to England and raced until 1938 with much success. After WWII she passed through many hands and fell into disrepair. In 1984 she was purchased by Elizabeth Meyer of Rhode Island and restored to her former glory.
