Mayflower Ship Model (Click photos to enlarge)
On August 15, 1620 The Mayflower, a British cargo ship, Captained by Christopher Jones set sail from Plymouth, England. She set sail with a Pilgrim colony of 102 people aboard. The Mayflower was 95 feet in length and displaced 180 tons. Her voyage across the Atlantic took 67 days and 3000 miles of stormy ocean at an average speed of 2 knots. Due to primitive navigation techniques Mayflower landed in Cape Cod missing their intended destination. After exploring the coast of New England the Pilgrims settled in Plymouth, for their new home. That winter the Pilgrims lived aboard the Mayflower while building their colony. On April 5, 1621 Mayflower sailed back to England, but not a single Member of the colony went with her.
